TAYLOR – Police said the driver of a car that ran over and killed a 19-year-old woman was released from custody and that any potential charges for the fatal incident awaited the outcome of toxicology tests.

Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said Taylor resident Jessica Gladden was killed after being dropped off at her house on Champaign by a group of friends about 2 a.m. Monday.

“Somehow she ended up on the ground,” Sclabassi said. “And the driver unknowingly drove over her.”

The driver, a 20-year-old Dearborn Heights man, was reportedly a friend or acquaintance of Gladden. Three other passengers were said to be in the vehicle and were being interviewed by investigators. A report was to be submitted with drug and alcohol test results to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
