LINCOLN PARK – Police continued their investigation into the death of a 58-year-old Lincoln Park woman who appears to have been the victim of “a tragic accident.”

According to police reports, the woman was crossing Dix on foot at 7:13 p.m. March 6, when she was hit by a 1999 Black Jeep. The woman appeared to have died instantly from the resulting injuries.

The driver of the Jeep, a 67-year-old Lincoln Park man, stopped at the scene and waited for first responders. A preliminary breath test at the scene revealed no alcohol in the man’s system, and he told police he had not been speeding, but didn’t see the woman who was reportedly in the center lane of Dix near Reo Avenue.

The man’s vehicle was impounded for the duration of the investigation, which continued through the week.

Police withheld the woman’s name pending notification of next of kin, and said in a statement that the preliminary findings, “point to this being a tragic accident.”
