DEARBORN – Public Service Days — the city’s annual program to keep streets clean and maintain high neighborhood standards — will begin the week of April 6.
Parking rules will be enforced. Residents are required to keep parked vehicles off neighborhood streets from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on their trash days, which are also Public Service Days.
Tickets will be issued to cars parked on the street on a neighborhood’s trash day/Public Service Day. Tickets also will be issued to vehicles parked across sidewalks, on the easement or on lawns.
Trash and recycling carts should not be in the road at any time.
“Public Service Days allow us to sweep the streets curb to curb, and do other important maintenance work,” Mayor John O’Reilly Jr. said.
“Residents across the city pay for services with their taxes, and they deserve to have them delivered in their neighborhoods in a thorough and effective manner. Keeping parked cars off the streets gives us that chance.”
Public Service Days also permit more efficient and safe collection of trash, recyclables and yard waste set at the curb. In addition, crews can better manage tree-trimming and sewer and catch basin maintenance.
When visiting someone in a different neighborhood in Dearborn, it is a good idea to check to see when trash days/Public Service Days fall in their area.
A good way to remember what to do on Public Service Days is: “Carts out, Cars In.” That means if you are putting trash and recycling carts at the curb, you should have your cars in the driveway, off of the street.
In each neighborhood, multiple street signs list the days parking restrictions are in place.
The city recognizes that keeping vehicles off the streets can be an inconvenience for residents, and so in the winter months suspends Public Service Days when it is less likely that maintenance could be performed. Public Service Days will end for the season Nov. 28.
