DEARBORN – Train enthusiasts and those considering taking their first ride can get details about train travel, routes and insider tips at the Amtrak Train Days event at the John D. Dingell Intermodal Passenger Rail Station May 23.
The event will take place from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of the train station, 21201 Michigan Ave..
Dearborn’s event seeks to promote train travel within Michigan and to Chicago.
Representatives from the Michigan Association of Railroad Passengers will be on hand to give advice on when to travel, tips on traveling by train, and suggestions for routes and train trips. Visitors can also pick up route guides, pamphlets for attractions along the routes that run through Michigan, and Junior Conductor activity books for kids.
The hope of MARP is to encourage train travelers and would-be passengers to “celebrate train day every day.”
Refreshments and doughnuts provided by Tim Horton’s, which operates a restaurant just west of Dearborn’s train station, will also be available.
Amtrak Train Days is a series of events to celebrate and educate the public about train travel. Held throughout the country, the events expand upon the past success of National Train Day and take place throughout spring, summer and fall.
Amtrak Train Days demonstrate why “Trains Matter” by sharing with the local communities served by Amtrak the reasons to ride the train. The events focus on reaching current and new audiences across America to reinforce the importance, benefits and value of passenger train travel.
