LINCOLN PARK — Police are investigating a crash that claimed two lives Wednesday when a motorcycle and a car collided on Dix Highway.

A motorcyclist, 21-year-old Jacob Zachary Browne of Woodhaven, had been riding at a high rate of speed. About 9:30 p.m., police said he struck the side of a silver Pontiac Sunfire driven by 71-year-old Robert Matthew Omara, of Detroit.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Omara was said to have been wearing a seat belt and Browne a helmet. The crash took place on Dix near College Avenue, and the road remained closed for several hours.

According to Lincoln Park police reports, Browne was seen by witnesses doing a “wheelie” at the time of impact. City officials extended condolences to the men’s families.

Firefighters and police responded to the scene, which kept the road closed for hours. Police and reconstruction officials gathered evidence and the accident remained under investigation.
