HEIGHTS — An ongoing dispute between neighbors escalated into the shooting death of one by the other June 3, police said.
The incident occurred about 7 p.m. in the backyard of a house in the 6400 block of Fairwood.
A 66-year-old Dearborn Heights man is in police custody after he allegedly used a revolver and fired multiple shots at his 60-year-old neighbor, killing the man.
“The two men were fighting in the backyard,” witness and neighbor Ali Rammal said. “Next thing I know, I hear seven gun shots go off and police swarming the neighborhood.”
The shooting incident possibly stemmed form an ongoing dispute between the two neighbors.
“We have been called to the houses of both men multiple times in the past,” Detective Sgt. Matthew Larabell said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the suspect was arrested.
Dorothy Wrobleski lives on the same block as the two men and was shocked to hear about the shooting.
“The two men were neighbors for 20 years,” she said. “They had issues before but I never thought it would get to this point.”
Dearborn Heights police are investigating the incident with the assistance of the Michigan State Police.
