TAYLOR – A 61-year-old pedestrian who had died in a traffic accident June 8 was identified by police as having left an assisted living facility.

Patrick Brooks had walked away from the Homestead Residence, 15475 Pardee, before being struck by a vehicle on Eureka Road near I-75, Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said.

Sclabassi said Brooks had stepped from the center median about 6 a.m. June 8 and was hit by vehicle driven by a 21-year-old Brownstown Township man.

Police had been uncertain of Brooks’ residence – he had been carrying several garbage bags and did not have identification – and it was unknown if he had suffered from dementia or similar conditions.

The driver of the vehicle will not face charges, Sclabassi said, for what investigators said was a “tragic accident.”
