DEARBORN — Police are searching for the people who vandalized the Christopher Columbus statue on Oakman Boulevard north of Michigan Avenue.

Officers discovered red paint splattered on the statue about 8:30 a.m. Oct. 12. The statue was vandalized on the Columbus Day holiday, as was a similar statue in Detroit.

Public Works crews were sent to the statue to create a plan for removing the paint.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information on the vandalism to call 313-943-3012.
