Coney Island worker shot in early morning robbery attempt

December 1, 2015 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

DEARBORN — An employee of Dearborn Coney Island, 3337 S. Telegraph Road, was shot in the leg during an attempted armed robbery about 4 a.m. today.

The employee told police he opened the rear door to the 24-hour restaurant to complete some repair work on the door when he was approached by two armed men, both wearing masks. They forced the employee back inside the building.

One of the attackers ordered the employee to give him all the money from the cash register, and the employee entered the dining area to retrieve the money.

While the employee was attempting to open the register, the attacker fired one shot, striking the employee in the leg. Both attackers fled in an unknown direction.

The employee suffered minor injuries and was treated by firefighter paramedics.

“We are urging the public to come forward and provide information to help identify the suspects involved in this crime,” Police Chief Ronald Haddad said.

Police were unable to provide a description of the attackers as of publication.
