DEARBORN – The Players Guild of Dearborn “White Christmas” cast and crew hope to extend their run of holiday cheer by hosting a Toys for Tots collection next weekend at the theater.

While the holiday musical is sold out for its last three performances, new and unwrapped toys will be collected in the ticket lobby from 7:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4 and 5, and from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at the theater, 21730 Madison in Dearborn.

Director Brian Townsend said many local children have not experienced the generosity of the holiday season the way many did as children.

“To give them an opportunity to experience the joy of receiving, and a Christmas morning the way some of us were fortunate enough to have experienced growing up, to help provide that opportunity to families in need is a great cause,” Townsend said.

He said the gift collection mirrors the theme of the group’s holiday musical.

“One of the themes of ‘White Christmas’ is giving of yourself, giving something to others, putting them first,” Townsend said. “We all reap the benefit when that happens.”
