TAYLOR – Police are investigating pending home invasion charges after a 27-year-old Flat Rock man was shot in the leg after allegedly breaking into a garage.

Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said officers responded about 2:50 a.m. Dec. 29 to reports of a gunshot in the 8000 block of Oak Street. The 31-year-old homeowner heard noises in his garage, Sclabassi said, and encountered an unknown intruder.

The homeowner fired a single round and struck the Flat Rock man in the leg.

The alleged intruder was taken to the hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries while awaiting pending charges.

Police took the homeowner into custody, and he was released the same day pending further investigation. The handgun used by the homeowner reportedly was bought legally and registered.
