SOUTHGATE – A 34-year-old man who pleaded guilty to the murders of a woman and her 10-year-old son will spend at least 45 years in prison under a sentencing agreement carried out last week.

Antoine Terrail Beck was sentenced Feb. 24 to a minimum of 45 years and a maximum of 75 years in prison for the June 2015 deaths of Courtney Marie Durr, 28, and her son, Sumari Keon Das. Beck was sentenced by Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Cameron.

Beck had been scheduled to face a jury this month but instead pleaded guilty on Feb. 8 to two counts of second-degree murder.

Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Maria Miller said that under the terms of the agreement, two counts of premeditated first-degree murder were dismissed. They carried an automatic sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole.

Police and prosecutors said Beck had been living with Durr in her apartment in the 14500 block of North Line Road since his release from prison in 2014. Beck had served 10 years for armed robbery.

Police responded on June 7 to a welfare check at the home and discovered Durr, whose throat had been slashed, and the child who had been strangled to death.
