MELVINDALE – The community swimming pool, located at the high school, closed three years ago, and some members of the community are reaching out for help to reopen it.

Resident Abdul Ahmed started GoFundMe account Feb. 17. So far, residents have contributed $90 to the $10,000 request via gofundme.com. The estimated cost to repair the pool is $60,000.

Ahmed said the pool was a huge source for activities when it was open. He said now children walk around with nothing to do in the summer. He is asking the community to help fund the pool. It would be open to people from both Melvindale and Allen Park.

Ahmed said all donations would be appreciated. Donors needing a tax-exempt letter can contact the mayor’s office at 313-429-1051.
