LINCOLN PARK – Three alleged shoplifters were pursued by Lincoln Park and Michigan State police through rush-hour traffic Tuesday before being run off the road near Gratiot Avenue in Detroit.
Police reportedly attempted a traffic stop Tuesday near Fort Street and Southfield Road when the Chevy Malibu instead took off. Lincoln Park police were soon joined by MSP troopers, and pursued the vehicle for several miles before boxing it in near Conner Avenue.
The driver and two passengers – two men and a woman – were taken into custody. Police expected to announce further details today of an alleged shoplifting and pursuit that traveled through three cities. The chase took place on I-94 and on surface roads before ending on Detroit’s east side.
Local television station helicopters captured the pursuit, which wound in and out of traffic. The Malibu came close to colliding with other vehicles along the way and was struck in the rear before being boxed in by police.
Police reported no injuries from the pursuit.
