LINCOLN PARK – Police are investigating the death of a 47-year-old Ecorse woman who was struck while bicycling on Southfield Road by a truck driver.

According to police reports, officers responded about 8:45 a.m. June 16 to a serious injury accident in the 500 block of Southfield Road. The woman – whose name has not been released – was bicycling on westbound Southfield Road along the sidewalk when she encountered a semi-tractor trailer that was passing along beside her in the right lane.

Initial reports indicated the woman may have been intoxicated as it appeared she rode in front of the moving vehicle.

The driver of the truck stopped immediately. Police said speed did not appear to be a factor, and the Downriver Crash Team was called in to investigate the incident.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and died from her injuries on June 18.
