DEARBORN – The public is invited to hit the road for the second annual Healthy Dearborn Family Bike Ride Oct. 8.
The 6.5-mile ride will start at and return to Ford Field Park, 22051 Cherry Hill. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m., and the ride will begin at 10 a.m.
Police will assist with traffic, and all ages and abilities of bikers are welcome. The leisurely ride is meant for family fun and will wend from the park to Oakwood Boulevard, to Rotunda to the Snow Woods neighborhood, and across there to Outer Drive before heading back to Ford Field.
Snacks and safe biking information will be available before the ride at the North Shelter at Ford Field. Children age 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Helmets are required. A liability waiver also needs to be signed and can be downloaded in advance at www.cityofdearborn.org/healthydearborn.
Healthy Dearborn is an initiative that encourages healthy eating and active lifestyles at work, school and across the community. The program is a joint venture between Beaumont Health, the city and Dearborn Public Schools.
Dearborn held its first Healthy Dearborn Family Bike ride in October 2015, which despite the chilly day, attracted about 60 riders. Another Healthy Dearborn family ride was held during the Homecoming Festival in August and brought out more than 100 riders.
