3 arrested in ‘scary clown’ incidents

October 7, 2016 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

DEARBORN — Police arrested three people involved in threats and harassment while dressed as “scary clowns.”

The arrests stem from two different incidents, though the Police Department has investigated several other unfounded reports, according to a department press release issued Oct. 7. The two incidents were still under investigation as of publication, and formal charges were pending.

The department has investigated several other “scary clown” sightings, though none of the other complaints have been substantiated as factual, the release said. The police department is asking citizens to continue to call with any concerns regarding these types of incidents.

“These incidents create unnecessary hysteria within our community and threats and will not be tolerated,” Police Chief Ronald Haddad said. “The Dearborn Police Department will pursue charges against any individual that deliberately commits an act that is designed to create fear or panic among our citizens.”
