HEIGHTS — A Dearborn Heights detective allegedly crashed into a parked semi-truck after he was possibly driving drunk Oct. 18.

WDIV Channel 4 reported that the detective has more than 20 years of experience in law enforcement, including as a Dearborn Heights sergeant.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Van Born and Haggarty roads in Canton Township after he left an event were he was allegedly driving with other police officers.

He was off duty at the time of the crash.

Sources told WDIV the detective fell asleep while driving causing him to crash into the back of a semi-trailer truck parked at a nearby business.

It is being reported that his blood-alcohol-level was .12, which is over the .08 legal limit in Michigan.

He suffered no major injures from the crash.

Police Chief Lee Gavin said the detective is currently suspended with pay and will be without pay if he charged.

He also said that if the detective is convicted of the crime, job termination will follow.
