DEARBORN – City officials encourage holiday shoppers to support small, local businesses in Dearborn starting on Small Business Saturday, Nov 26, through Dec. 14.
Community partners, including the East and West Dearborn Downtown Development Authorities and the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce, have assembled a selection of retailers and restaurants to offer in-store deals and a chance to win local gifts.
American Express launched its Small Business Saturday to encourage people across the country to support small, local businesses.
“This is our second year partnering together to showcase our one-of-a-kind and locally owned businesses in conjunction with American Express’ Shop Small campaign,” EDDDA Executive Director Mike Bewick said.
Shoppers are encouraged to pick up a #ShopSmall #DowntownDearborn Passport at 34 participating locations featuring deals and specials and get it stamped as they make purchases at as many locations as possible throughout the two-week promotion.
Every time someone makes a purchase they will receive a stamp — it does not need to be the special or discount item offered. For every stamp received, customers are then entered to win prizes provided by participating businesses. A downloadable version of the passport is available at www.dearbornwestonline.com.
“We have a great selection of established shops and restaurants participating in our #ShopSmall #DowntownDearborn promotion DACC President Jackie Lovejoy said, “and this is a great opportunity to experience new businesses, as well as revisit old favorites.”
Also on Nov. 26, the jolly ol’ elf himself will visit Dearborn’s two downtown areas from 1 to 4 p.m. for photos with Santa: from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the pocket park next to Brome Burgers, 22062 Michigan Ave., and from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Green Brain Comics, 13936 Michigan Ave.
From 4 to 9 p.m. Dec. 14, shoppers will have another chance to get out there for the last time and get their passports stamped by partaking in the Downtown Dearborn Open House at Artspace, 13613 Michigan Ave., and participating businesses in downtown west Dearborn. Businesses will be featuring snacks, beverages, entertainment and specials throughout the evening.
“Locally owned businesses reinvest more than 70 percent of their earnings back into their community,” Downtown Dearborn Executive Director Cristina Sheppard-Decius said. “When you shop local you are helping to grow your downtown which supports the people who live and work in your community.”
Passports must be turned in by Dec. 14, at one of four passport dropoff boxes:
• Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave.
• Green Brain Comics, 13936 Michigan Ave.
• Village Picture Frame & Art Gallery, 22191 Michigan Ave.
