TRENTON — An 81-year-old Riverview woman is suspected of violating the controlled substance act when, while being admitted to Beaumont Hospital Nov. 23, she asked a nurse to hand her her purse and narcotics spilled out.
Police were called to the hospital, 5450 Fort St. about 3:45 a.m. where they met with hospital security. The security officer said a nurse called him to the fourth floor of the hospital after she recovered vials of liquid marijuana from a patient. The items were in a small black bag with a pink flower.
Police opened the bag packed with Platinum Vape and found nine more vials, three already empty. Police said the items were marked as organic cannabis.
A nurse reportedly told police that the patient rang the call button and another nurse answered the call. When in the room, the patient asked for her purse. The nurse said the purse was given to the patient and then it fell and all its contents spilled out.
In addition to the cannabis, nurses also recovered a large amount of prescription medication which was not prescribed to the woman. A nurse then contacted security who called police.
No charges have been filed.
