January 20, 2017 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

HEIGHTS — A 3-year-old girl died today when a table-type structure attached to the wall of a Head Start facility collapsed on her.

Children in the class were at recess about 10:30 a.m. in the gymnasium at St. Albert the Great Catholic School, 4671 Parker, according to published reports.

Head Start officials attempted to help the girl before first responders arrived on scene to take her to Beaumont Hospital-Dearborn where she was pronounced dead.

Police said there appeared to be no wrongdoing in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing and the girl’s name has not been released.

Students were sent home and the Head Start was closed for the day.
