HEIGHTS — A vehicle chase that stared in Dearborn Heights Feb. 9 ended in Inkster with the passenger dead and driver in critical condition.

Alena Ralston, 33, of Detroit, was killed when the Chevrolet Cobalt in which she was the passenger crashed into a tree during a chase with Dearborn Heights police.

Officers first spotted the vehicle about 5 a.m. at the intersection of Annapolis and Beech Daly in Dearborn Heights, on the border with Inkster. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop at Dartmouth and Bayhan streets in Inkster for a burned out headlight.

Instead of stopping for police, the Cobalt fled at a high rate of speed, where the driver lost control as he drove down Dartmouth and crashed into a tree at Sylvia Street.

Michigan State Police are investigating to determine the cause of the crash. Name of the driver has not been released.

Ralston leaves behind three daughters. Her family told WXYZ Channel 7 they did not know who the driver of the vehicle was.
