Incredible Science Machine returns for third year

TAYLOR — Zeal Credit Union’s third annual Incredible Science Machine will attempt to break the record for the most dominoes toppled in the United States. In 2016, the ISM broke the Guinness World Record for the largest domino circle field.

The event will be held at 2 p.m. July 30 at Trillium Academy, 15740 Racho Blvd.

Tickets are available at all 12 Zeal Credit Union branch locations throughout metropolitan Detroit. Tickets are $5, with proceeds benefiting students in the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program.

Head builder Steve Price, Canton Township native and graduate of Michigan State University College of Engineering, will once again lead a team of 19 chain reaction builders from the United States, Canada, Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

This year’s theme is “Game On!” and includes video games, board games and sports.

The ISM team will also hold a meet-and-greet with demonstrations that are open to the public from 5 to 7 p.m. July 27 at the Southland Center, 23000 Eureka Road.

Videos of the ISM events in 2015 and 2016 have received a combined total of 13 million views on YouTube, said Tiffany Sweet, the credit union’s youth and community development coordinator. Individual builders have received more than 50 million views on YouTube videos they have posted.

“It takes more than 15 minutes for the Incredible Science Machine to topple, so until you witness the event, it’s hard to imagine the thousands of dominoes and hundreds of other everyday items that go into this,” Sweet said.
