DEARBORN — An 18-year-old Dearborn man was shot and killed Dec. 1 after a road rage incident in Detroit by unknown man who is still at large.

The shooting took place in the area of West Vernor and Woodmere following a traffic incident that allegedly began in Dearborn.

Fatih Almasaky stopped in the area on Detroit’s southwest side when, Detroit police said, he noticed a blue Chevrolet Impala had followed him. A man driving the Impala fired shots at Almasaky before fleeing. Almasaky was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Almasaky’s funeral was held Dec. 4 at the American Moslem Society and he was buried at Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit.

According to a GoFundMe page set up by a family friend, Almasaky came to the United States a few years ago and worked to send money to his family in Yemen.

“Anyone who knew him from friends, family and even people he met for the first time described him as a very respectful, kind and hard-working man,” the page read. “It is terribly devastating to see such a young man go so soon.”

The $5,000 goal was surpassed, raising $6,035 for funeral expenses and family.

Detroit police are asking for assistance from the public regarding the shooting, which is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call 313-267-4600.

No suspect description has been released by police.
