The nation’s first-ever halal-certified Sonic restaurant officially opened in Dearborn April 26 with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Dearborn Mayor John O’Reilly Jr. performed the honors with owners Tom and Dr. Lobna Fakih. The restaurant, at 10403 Ford Road, features the same fast-food fare as other Sonics, as well as halal options, which are stored in and prepared on equipment separate from the regular fare, Tom Fakih said. Hours are 9 a.m. to midnight most days, but are expected to be extended during the summer.
