DEARBORN – With Arbor Day still in the rearview mirror residents are encouraged to add to the city’s tree canopy by ordering an affordable tree to be planted on the easement in front of their homes.
Each tree costs $185 plus tax, and the trees range from 4 to 8 feet in height at planting. They are sold through the Department of Public Works and will be planted by a contractor.
The contractor is responsible for mulching, staking, pruning, watering and cleanup at the time of planting, and a final inspection after one year.
To reserve a tree, residents can call 943-2317 or order online at http://www.cityofdearborn.org/services/public-works/tree-trimming-removal-and-planting
Choose from Sugar Maple, American Hornbeam, Hackberry, Tulip Tree, Dawn Redwood, Blackgum, Hophornbeam, London Plane Tree, Burr Oak, Red Oak, Beech, Cleveland Pear, Flowering Cherry, Flowering Dogwood, Hybrid Elm, and Redbud.
The area between resident’s sidewalk and curb must be a minimum of 4 feet wide to accommodate a tree.
Multiple trees may be ordered if space is available.
Residents who had a tree removed from the easement by the city due to construction or any other reason will receive a replacement tree at no charge. To find out if you are part of the tree replacement list, call 313-943-2317.
City officials encourage the planting of trees to keep neighborhoods attractive, reduce energy consumption and support a healthier environment. Dearborn has received the Tree City USA designation for more than 30 years.
