TAYLOR — In an effort to keep residents informed of city-related events in the community, the city recently published its first “Taylor Events” magazine, which is located in digital form on its website and will be eventually available in print editions in limited numbers around the city.
The publication is a first-of-its-kind venture for the city. After creating this initial effort, the city plans to expand on it in 2020.
The 2019 “Taylor Events” magazine offers a look into each month of the year. Two pages are allocated to each month, with the introduction page dedicated to key events that occur in that time period. The second page of each month is dedicated to city events scheduled in that period.
It offers updates on pavilion rentals, Lake House Grille Restaurant at the Lakes of Taylor, Taylor Golf, Sportsplex, Recreation Center, Petting Farm, Senior Center, Library, parks, Northwest Park Pool and Lamarand Splash Pad, Fletcher Discovery Trail and other issues important to residents.
The latest effort also fits in with the general concept of the iCare Taylor program, which is a free app that enables residents to contact the city directly about issues and concerns. iCare Taylor, which can be downloaded to cell phones or tablets for free from The App Store, enables residents to create their own “work orders” online and file with into the system, which sends them directly to the department in charge of getting the problem solved. It is ideal for many, many issues – and eliminates waits on the telephone or in line at a customer service desk.
“This follows along with many of our initiatives aimed to keep residents informed of the key things that effect their lives,” Mayor Rick Sollars said. “Back in 2014, we expanded the ‘Taylor Today’ magazine from four to six times annually, an effort that focuses in-depth on stories important to residents and businesses in the community. Last year, we even added a special seventh edition of the magazine, devoted to ‘Welcome to Taylor’ information.
“Two years ago, we made key investments and revamped our entire website, something that gives us immediate connectivity with our audience online. If you sign up for the ‘Notify Me’ portion of our website, you automatically can receive messages from our website about news and events of interest.
“Over the past year, we’ve revamped and added beautiful new LED information boards in the community, which reinforces messaging and informational flow. All of these measures have focused on making our public more informed of the key information and events that effect their everyday lives.”
