HEIGHTS — A shooting in during the early morning hours of Feb. 28 left a 17-year-old boy dead and a 16-year-old boy injured.
Police responded to a 911 call on a report of a male who sustained a gunshot injury at about 1:40 a.m. in the area of Beech Daly Road and Annapolis, according to a press release.
First responders arrived at the scene and determined the 16-year-old, had non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment before being released. According to the press release, investigators interviewed the 16-year-old.
During the investigation, police were notified of a second male, the 17-year-old, who was transported to Beaumont Hospital-Wayne for treatment of gunshot injuries as a result of the shooting.
The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital from the apparent gunshot injury, according to the police press release.
A neighbor told WDIV Channel 4 that the shooting woke him up and when he looked outside, people were running out of the home and into a silver car that took off down the street. According to Channel 4, it is unknown if the vehicle was used to take the 17-year-old boy to the hospital.
Police are currently investigating the shooting and neither of the boys have been identified.
“The investigation into the identity of the deceased subject and circumstances surrounding the shootings and death are still under investigation,” Investigative Services Capt. Mark Meyers said in the press release. “Witness interviews and surveillance video reviews are being conducted to assist with the identification of any involved individuals and to determine the circumstances of the incident.
