Veterans and dozens of military and community groups march in Dearborn’s Memorial Day Parade, one of the largest in the country and the oldest continuous one in Michigan. The deadline to register to participate is April 19 for the May 27 parade.
May 27 parade theme will be Gold Star Families
DEARBORN – Online registration is available for groups that want to participate in the city’s 2019 Memorial Day Parade May 27. The deadline is Friday, April 19.
To register, organizations should go to www.cityofdearborn.org and follow the special link for Memorial Day. The website also contains information for participants, such as times, staging areas and rules during the parade.
The theme for this year’s parade is Gold Star Families. These are families who lost a loved one during their military service.
The parade will proceed along Michigan Avenue, starting at Maple Street — near the City Hall Artspace Lofts — and moving west to end at Henry Ford Centennial Library, 16301 Michigan Ave.
A solemn ceremony will follow the parade at noon at the Veterans Park and War Memorial in front of the library.
The parade is organized by the city and the Dearborn Allied War Veterans Council. For more information, call 313-943-2285.
Last year, 100 groups, including 2,000 participants, marched in the parade before tens of thousands of spectators.
