DEARBORN — Kroger, 23000 Michigan Ave., will close for good May 18 due to financial reasons, Kroger Co. of Michigan Corporate Affairs Manager Rachel Hurst said.

All 84 employees from the location will be offered jobs at other Kroger stores in the area.

The Kroger across the street in the Western Mall, at 23303 Michigan Ave., will remain open.

“All employees will be offered employment at other area stores to continue to remain part of the Kroger family of stores,” Hurst said. “Additionally, we operate a Kroger store across the street and are looking forward to serving our customers there.”

The Kroger on the north side of Michigan Avenue was a former Farmer Jack. Kroger purchased the building in June 2007, when Farmer Jack went out of business, and opened a store the next month.

Part of the $97 million investment includes adding two new stores in Warren and Sterling Heights, remodeling 11 stores and adding three new fuel centers.

The Sterling Heights location will be in place of a vacant Kmart, and the Warren store will be a Kroger Marketplace.

Also, Kroger plans to add its online ordering pickup service, Kroger Pickup, to 20 Michigan stories in the near future.
