WYANDOTTE – Repeated, high-speed lane changes by a reckless driver on Fort Street near Grove June 17 triggered a multi-vehicle rollover crash with extensive vehicle damage but no significant injuries.

Witnesses told police the four-vehicle crash occurred when a man driving north on Fort Street at an excess rate of speed changed from the middle to right lane, struck a second vehicle in front of it from the rear, which then crashed into a third vehicle, which rolled over, landing with its front passenger side on top of a fourth vehicle, which was stopped west on Grove waiting to turn north onto Fort. The Fort and Grove street sign post was struck and damaged as well.

Drivers and passengers in all four vehicles exited on their own and provided statements to police, which witnesses corroborated.
The reckless driver, in a red Ford Focus, admitted he was driving in excess of 55 mph in the 45-mph zone. He was cited and released.

His passenger said he was driving 55 to 60 mph and “weaving through cars” while passing them.

A woman driving the second vehicle, who was shaken but uninjured, corroborated the sequence of events.

A man driving the third vehicle, whose vehicle rolled over once, said he was about to turn east onto Grove Street from northbound Fort Street when his vehicle was struck from the rear. He had a small cut on his left hand, which rescue personnel on scene bandaged. He declined further treatment.

A woman driving the fourth vehicle, who was waiting to turn from westbound Grove to northbound Fort, said her vehicle’s airbags deployed when it was struck by the third vehicle. She sustained no injuries.

All four vehicles were towed from the scene, and all drivers and passengers were cleared and released by first responders.
