DEARBORN — The shooting death of a 67-year-old Dearborn man July 5 at Ford Field Park was ruled a suicide, a Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office spokesperson said.

Police responded to reports of a gun shot at Ford Field and found William Lendrum, 67, dead from a gunshot wound to the chest. Calls to the Police Department for additional details were not returned by press time.

According to Lendrum’s obituary on the RG & GR Harris Funeral Homes website, Lendrum spent his life working at Stroh’s Brewery, Ford Motor Co., and both Northwest and Delta airlines. He retired at the age of 62 in 2013.

Lendrum was born in Detroit to James and Norma Lendrum, was raised in the city and spent his entire life in the metropolitan Detroit area, graduating from Redford High School.

A memorial service for Lendrum was scheduled for July 13 at Merriman Road Baptist Church, 2055 Merriman Road in Garden City. Donations can be made to iheartdogs.org, as suggested by Lendrum’s family.

Lendrum leaves his wife, Lisa, and was preceded in death by his parents and a brother James. The obituary also said Lendrum is survived by several nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

He was the father of James and John, brother of Stella and step-son of Anna Lendrum.
