Arrests made following fatal grad party stabbing

July 19, 2019 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

TAYLOR — Two teenagers were arrested July 7 following the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old Detroit boy at a high school graduation party at a rented hall the night before. Three others were hospitalized as a result of the fight.

One of the suspects allegedly bragged about the killing on social media.

Police were called to the hall at 24900 Brest Road — commonly known as a Knights of Columbus hall — on a report of a large fight and found four people with injuries. The four were transported to a hospital. One of the victims, Cameron Petty, died of his injuries.

Police executed a search warrant in Southgate and arrested two teens. A 16-year-old suspect, was being held in the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility, according to published reports.

A decision on the suspect’s case was expected from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office July 12, reports said. Results were unavailable at press time.

The private party was for a Southgate High School graduate.

The Southgate Police Department and Michigan State Police also took part in the investigation, a Taylor Police Department press release said.
