Dearborn resident Brian Kemp’s vehicle is trapped under a large tree branch that fell as a result of thunderstorms July 19 and 20. In a Facebook post, DTE Energy said that as of July 24 power had been restored to the vast majority of the 600,000 customers throughout southeast Michigan who lost power because of the storms, and that crews were in the field to restore remaining storm related outages as of press time. The two waves of thunderstorms and high winds over the weekend caused power outages at local businesses, University of Michigan-Dearborn buildings and pools, and campus closure of Henry Ford College. DTE Community vans offered free water, ice and cellphone charging to Dearborn and Dearborn Heights residents impacted by the storms.
