SOUTHGATE – An explosion inside a house linked to oxygen tanks killed a 59-year-old Southgate woman Aug. 22 in the 13400 block of Cunningham Street, west of Fort and south of Northline.

The morning explosion was felt down the block.

Officials said the woman, whose name had not been released by press time, used oxygen for a breathing condition. One of the neighbors said the woman had emphysema.

The tanks caused a series of explosions, preventing neighbors from entering the house to help the woman. One neighbor said he heard four separate explosions occur within a few minutes.
