MELVINDALE – Sept. 28 was declared Michael Preadmore Day, as the retiring Melvindale and Dearborn fire captain was honored Sept. 4 for 23 years of service by Melvindale Mayor Stacy Bazman.
Preadmore, who became a firefighter in 1996, became a Melvindale Fire Department sergeant in 2010, and in 2012 became a lieutenant. When the department consolidated with Dearborn in 2013, he continued to serve, and in 2017 became a captain.
Preadmore received the Fire Chief Lifesaving Award in 1997 and 2008; the department’s Medal of Valor in 2010; and in 2014 and 2015 was honored for perfect attendance.
In 2016, Preadmore received professional certification for trench rescue, and for educator confined space and rope rescue.
In 2017, he received the Fire Chief Unit Commendation, as well as a certificate of special recognition. Sept. 28, the day declared in his honor, is his last day on the job.
