Naloxone Distribution Day offers free Narcan kits

September 12, 2019 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

Help is available this week if a friend, family member or client potentially needs assistance with an opioid overdose.

During Naloxone Distribution Day on Sept. 14, Michiganders can go to a participating pharmacy and anonymously pick up a free Narcan kit.

A list of participating pharmacies is available at www.michigan.gov/opioids and includes several major chains as well as local, independent pharmacies.

Narcan Nasal Spray counteracts the life-threatening effects of an opioid overdose; it is a prefilled, needle-free device that requires no assembly and is sprayed into one nostril while patients lay on their back.

So far, 51,924 kits have been shipped to pharmacies statewide, and about 3,000 additional kits will be distributed on the same day at the Recovery Walk on Belle Isle in Detroit.

For more information, call the Office of Recovery Oriented Systems of Care at 517-335-2300.
