DEARBORN — Timothy Cronan, 52, of Dearborn was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Sept. 19 on tracks south of Michigan Avenue between Mason and Monroe.

Once on the scene about 2 p.m., police and first responders discovered an injured man on the ground and the passenger train stopped at Monroe. Aid was rendered by first responders but the man died at the scene, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicated the man was a pedestrian and not a passenger on the train. Also, the man possibly was struck by the train while traveling east on the tracks.

The cause of death is under investigation by the Wayne County Medical Examiner.

The Dearborn Police Department Accident Investigation Bureau is investigating this incident in conjunction with railroad police and Amtrak.

According to police, the investigation is ongoing and appears to be an accident.

“Any loss of life such as this is a tragedy,” Police Chief Ronald Haddad said. “The city of Dearborn extends sincere condolences to the family.”

At 3:09 p.m., the Twitter account Amtrak Alerts posted that the Wolverine train 350 will terminate in Dearborn, Wolverine Train 355 will originate in Dearborn and that alternate transportation buses will be provided while the track was temporarily closed during the investigation.
