Free, fun-filled day of activities, food and socializing set for seniors
DEARBORN – Area seniors, aged 50 and over, are invited to attend this year’s Autumn Elderfest Oct. 4, in the Hubbard Ballroom of the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center.
Admission is free.
Hosted by the Senior Services Division of the Dearborn Recreation & Parks Department, Autumn Elderfest features a variety of activities for area senior citizens.
This year’s festival, with the theme, “Spooky Hollow,” will get under way with breakfast at 10 a.m.
Bingo, presented by Howe-Peterson, with the assistance of the Kiwanis Club of Michigan-Outer Drive, will begin at 10:30 a.m., as will a pinochle tournament with prizes provided by Comfort Keepers.
Popcorn, courtesy of Heartland Health Care Center, and bottled water, sponsored by 19th District Court Judge Mark Somers, will be available starting at 11 a.m.
A variety of games, presented by PACE of Southeast Michigan, will get under way at 11:30 a.m.
For more active seniors, the Fun Walk with Mayor John O’Reilly Jr. will also start at 11:30 a.m., preceded by 15 minutes of warmup exercises led by DMC staff members.
Lunch, highlighted by hot dogs, courtesy of the Exchange Club of Dearborn, and soft drinks, sponsored by 19th District Court Judge Gene Hunt, will start at noon.
Musical entertainment, sponsored by Assurant Health Care and featuring Dr. Riccardo Selva and Friends, will begin at 12:30 p.m., and the Anniversary Waltz, sponsored by City Councilman Michael Sareini, will begin at 1 p.m.
The winner of the Anniversary Waltz Raffle will receive a complimentary one-night stay at the Dearborn Inn.
At 1:15 p.m., the Costume Parade will begin, and at 1:30 p.m., prizes, courtesy of Comfort Keepers, will be awarded for Most Creative Costume, Funniest Costume and Most Colorful Costume.
The winner of the Candy Guessing Game will be announced at 2 p.m. Participants can enter this contest up until 1:30 p.m.
During the course of the five-hour event, raffles, sponsored by City Clerk George Darany, will be conducted.
