“In October, a maple tree before your window lights up your room like a great lamp. Even on cloudy days, its presence helps to dispel the gloom.”
— John Burroughs

There is plenty of local color in our area in October! I am under deadline today, so a short article on our October offerings is at hand. Right now I’m staging the second annual Dearborn Sculpture Fest; to date we’ve had over 900 votes for People’s Choice and more than 1,000 views on our bidding website. Today we move the sculptures to the Dearborn Historical Museum’s Beer & Wine Tasting to finalize bidding and our event. A big thank you to the Henry Ford College Foundation for presenting this great event. I promise pictures in our next edition.

Oct. 7, a great six-year tradition continues, our Chairman’s Charity Executive 9 & Dine golf outing! Over five years we’ve donated in excess of $14,000 to charities impacting our residents, including the DMC’s RIM Foundation, the Dearborn Education Foundation, A Round to Remember and Wounded Warriors, to name a few. This year we are benefiting the Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive!

Please help us and join us for dinner or golf, with a 2 p.m. shotgun start. This is a lovely limited field of just 18 foursomes that will support us this year at the Dearborn Country Club. Check out registration for a single or foursome, or dinner ticket at:
www.dearbornareachamber.org.

Open enrollment is upon us, and in seeking to keep everyone educated we are hosting Priority Health’s Diane Wolfenden, east region vice president, to discuss technology In healthcare. Now what exactly does that mean for you? Employers will hear how to engage their employees to maximize their benefits; the public will hear of the new technologies in patient care (beyond the portal, to procedures!) and of course bring any questions you may have as we navigate another year of care and costs.

Register for this delicious breakfast at www.dearbornareachamber.org or call us 313-584-6100 for just $25 there’s a delicious Dearborn Inn breakfast included.

We’ve included some pictures from the 75th Anniversary Gala last month. A good time was had by all, and we would love to thank Ben Sharkey for the swinging tunes!

Thank you for your time. I always appreciate hearing from you with great ideas and feedback. You make the fabric of our corner of southeast Michigan GREAT! Cheers to October!
