ALLEN PARK – Alert witnesses who captured a license plate number helped police track down a hit-and-run driver in a blue Saturn Aura Dec. 19 in front of Bennie Elementary School, 17401 Champaign.

The driver, a white male with black and gray hair, struck a parked, unoccupied Ford Flex during morning drop off, got out to look at the other car’s bumper, then re-entered his car and left the scene.

The owner of the Ford Flex, which had minor bumper damage, later requested an accident report for insurance purposes.

Police officers then went to the address of a woman who was the registered owner of the Saturn. A man then approached, confessed that he had left the scene of the crash, and said he was unaware that there was any damage to the other vehicle.

He was cited for leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, and for failing to use due care and caution.
