DEARBORN — A 61-year-old man stepped out of his vehicle Dec. 21 and committed suicide on the pavement outside the Dearborn Police Department, 16099 Michigan Ave., Police Chief Ronald Haddad said.

The shooting took place about 6:20 p.m.; police were able to contain the scene.

Police are investigating the suicide.

The man was not identified, but Haddad confirmed it was an apparent self-inflected, suicide.

“I would just ask that we respect the family,” Haddad said during a press conference at the Dearborn Administrative Center, 16901 Michigan Ave. “It’s a tragic event for everyone.”
