Weigh What’s behind blatant acts of racism

Editor:

Rich Lowry did a fine job of cataloging the litany of racist actions throughout American history. (“Colin Kaepernick’s stupid lie about America,” Jan. 12.) He failed, however, to note and weigh the ideology responsible for driving the blatant acts of racism. “Manifest Destiny” underscored by “White Man’s Burden.” An ideology that still persists in Washington’s exploitation of third world countries under the pretense or guise of promoting democracy.

A look at President Trump’s handling of two massive natural disasters in Puerto Rico, withholding material and financial support carries profound racial overtones. Then there’s the deliberate efforts to suppress and deny the black vote in our elections. Jim Crow acts.

It is also worthwhile to note, in 1949, several white baseball players for the Brooklyn Dodgers took a knee in support of Jackie Robinson against racism.
