HEIGHTS — Two Dearborn Heights residents were killed in separate crashes Feb. 11 in Romulus and Westland.
A 30-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene after a two-vehicle crash about 1:10 a.m. on eastbound I-94 near Middlebelt Road in Romulus.
According to Michigan State Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that an occupied Ford passenger vehicle was disabled and blocking the right center lane with four-way flashers activated. A Jeep, driven by the Heights woman, rear ended the Ford, came to a rest in the median and then caught fire.
MSP said the driver of the Ford has a possible fractured back and was transported to a local hospital. The Heights woman was the only person in the Jeep.
Eastbound I-94 was closed for about five hours while police investigated the crash. An investigation by MSP Metro South Post is ongoing.
Later that same day, a second Heights woman was killed by a vehicle about 7:30 p.m. as she crossed Merriman Road near Parkwood in Westland on foot. The vehicle was merging into the turning lane, police said.
Police did not state whether the driver stopped or fled the scene.
Neither women from Dearborn Heights were identified by press time.
