Distracted driver crashes into couple pushing car; victims lose legs

TAYLOR – Two people who were pushing a car which ran out of gas on Pardee, while a third steered, were struck from behind by a distracted driver at 7:42 p.m. March 1, which pinned the man and woman between the vehicles.

According to social media reports by the family of the victims, the young woman has lost both legs to amputation, and the man has lost one of his legs. The couple has a young child together, who was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The driver of the disabled vehicle was treated and released. The distracted driver was not injured.

A source close to the investigation said the distracted driver had dropped a handheld electronic device on the floorboard of the car, and was reaching to retrieve it when the vehicle struck the other vehicle.
