LINCOLN PARK – Police Chief Ray Watters recognized seven police officers at the March 2 City Council meeting for saving lives through the use of Narcan to counteract potentially fatal opioid drug overdoses.
Presented with lifesaving awards at the Feb. 20 Public Safety meeting were Officers Steven Griebe, Jacob Hoyt, Christopher Kowalske, Thomas Mandernach, Nicholas Vaiyanet and Edward Willis, and Sgt. Veronica Lyles. Mandernach was recognized for saving two lives.
Watters said he wanted to recognize the officers at the city council meeting for lifesaving efforts.
“Obviously, they saved somebody’s life, and that’s pretty important,” Watters said. “It’s a pretty big deal. These officers all brought somebody back with Narcan – they were overdosing, and they brought them back and saved their lives.”
