WYANDOTTE – A man has been arrested in the Dec. 6 assault and attempted robbery of a woman at Sunoco, 1730 Ford Ave., Deputy Chief of Police Archie Hamilton said Thursday.
Geoffrey Jarrells, 28, was charged with unarmed robbery, a 15-year-felony; assault with the intent to rob while unarmed, a 15-year-felony; and with his third offense as a habitual offender. He is being held on $50,000 cash bond.
On the night of Dec. 6, two men in a gray sport utility vehicle pulled into the gas station, and while a man in a blue sweatshirt entered the store to pay for gas, the other man, who was wearing a black Nike coat, saw a woman walking toward the store with her wallet in her hand.
The man in the black jacket jumped out of the SUV and ran toward the woman, tackling her to the ground and attempting to wrest her wallet from her grip. The woman fought back, and the commotion caught the attention of the store clerk, who ran outside to help her.
The attacker then fled the scene on foot, while the man in the blue jacket drove off alone in the gray SUV.
The man in blue has since come forward, is cooperating with police officials, and will not be charged, Hamilton said.
