WYANDOTTE – Two men were arrested with a vehicle full of stolen property Jan. 11 thanks to the watchful eye of a resident who spotted the suspicious activity.

Deputy Police Chief Archie Hamilton said a police officer responded to a tip from a resident of the 200 block of Riverbank Street, where the two suspects tried unsuccessfully to flee in their vehicle.

“Based on the amount of property, we estimate more than a dozen vehicles were broken into,” Hamilton said.

He said the resident’s response — to call police without alerting the suspects — is an example of the importance of police-community relationships.

“The vigilant citizen recognized the suspicious behavior, and as a result, all the stolen property was recovered and the thieves were unable to victimize anyone else,” Hamilton said.
