DEARBORN — An identity thief opened an account and ran up a nearly $300 bill with Verizon Wireless, a Dearborn woman reported Dec. 31, for which a collection agency was now dunning her.

She said an unknown and unauthorized person used her identity information to initiate an account, in her name, in the city of Detroit. She was given a police report number to initiate an investigation with Verizon.
