DEARBORN – The Ford World Headquarters shone brightly for an hour Jan. 19, joining others across the country honoring U.S. COVID-19 victims by offering the bright light of hope at a dark time.

From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., the building was lit on every floor, glowing brighter as dusk settled in. Ford also lit up the historic Michigan Central Station in Corktown, which it is renovating.

In addition to lit up buildings, church bells were encouraged to peal in remembrance.

The nationwide gesture was planned by the 2021 Presidential Inaugural Committee. The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C., was illuminated, as well.

Ford supported the inaugural events, and contributed more than 4 million Michigan-made face masks for people participating in service activities during Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

In addition, Ford plans to produce and donate more than 100 million face masks through mid-2021 to help communities fight and limit the spread of the coronavirus.
